Con Arquetippe, y siendo descubierto,
La gente moça reprehender procura,
Con estos motes aquel desconcierto.
Qual la lechuza està en la sepultura,
Qual està el buho sobre el cuerpo muerto,
Tal Arquetippe està con el buen viejo
Sophocles, reçiviendo d’el consejo.[2]

1.  This emblem uses a dtifferent woodcut from that used in the French editions of 1549. See [FALb109].

2.  A story taken from Athenaeus, Deipnosophistae, 13.592b. Sophocles is the great tragic poet, of whom several such tales were told. He made Aganippe the beneficiary under his will.
