EMBLEMA IIII.

Aurea mendaci vates non unicus ore
Vellera phrixeae commemmoravit ovis.[1]
Nos te, Christe, agnum canimus. Nam divite gestas
Tu verč veras vellere solus opes.

Not a few poets have commemorated with lying lips the golden fleece of the Phryxean sheep. We, O Christ, acclaim [lit. sing] you, the lamb. For you alone truly bear true wealth with your rich fleece.

Notes:

1.  Phrixus rode the magical flying golden ram to safety in Colchis. For other references made by Bčze to Classical themes, see numbers 6 (the phoenix, [FBEa006]) and 38 (the Danaides, [FBEa038]).
