EMBLEMA XXX.

Aera gravi cunctos veluti campana sonore,
Ipsa licet penitus sint sibi surda, cient:
Sic es recta docens alios, perversa sequute,
Quique aliis sapiens, non sapis ipse tibi.

Just as bronze bells call everyone with their deep sound may inwardly be deaf to themselves, so you, though following the opposite, are teaching what is right to others, you who are wise for others but not wise for yourself.

Notes:

1.  This emblem may refer to Montenay’s emblem 43: ‘Multi sunt vocati’ (Many are called, [FMOa043]).
