VErtu de bras fait voguer la gallée[1],
Malgré des vents, ses forces, & renforts.
Ce que nous fait demonstrance assez claire,
De ceulx, qui ont les couraiges peu forts.
Si d’adventure on n’est par ses efforts,
Du premier coup parvenu, ou l’on tend,
Sans desespoir, osté ce qu’on pretend,
Par aultre endroit il fault qu’on y pourvoye:
Car qui ne peult venir, ou il s’attend,
Par un costé, si cherche une aultre voye.

1.  Pierre Martin points out that ‘gallée’ does not rhyme with ‘claire’, and that the expected reading here would probably be ‘galère’.
