tetrastichon.

Florida subsequitur rutilo cum Sole iuventus,
Aetas ultra alias robore vique potens.
Ut residet medio caelorum cardine Phoebus,[1]
Sic vitae medium sola iuventa tenet.

Young manhood blossoms next, flowering forth under the red sun; the time of life that is strong and mighty beyond all others. And as Phoebus takes his place at the central hinge of the sky, so the middle of life is occupied by youth alone.

quatrain.

Le Soleil tient jeunesse belle & gente,
De tous les dons de Nature assouvie:
Comme au mylieu des cieux Phoebus regente,
Jeunesse tient le mylieu de la vie.

Notes:

1.  ‘central hinge of the sky’: the highest point of the sun’s journey being compared to the hinge around which a door turns.
