Intererit multům quo vase vinum recondas,
Nam pereunt putido vina falerna[1] cado:
Sic bona verba malo frustra funduntur ab ore,
Illius & vitio saepe perire solent.

It matters much what pot you store wine in, for Falernian wine is ruined by a rotting cask. So good words pour in vain from an evil mouth: its badness often spoils them.

Comme le vin bon goust ne peult avoir,
Si puenteur d’aucun costé le touche:
Semblablement bon propos n’a pouvoir,
S’il est sorty d’une meschante bouche.
