Ista corona licèt radianti fulgeat auro,
Circulet & gemmis Regis onusta caput,
Illius interior pars spinis pungit acutis,
Sic latet in summo semper honore dolor.

This crown before you may shine radiant with gold, and encircle the head of a king heavy with gems, but its inner side is pierced with sharp thorns: thus always in the highest honour there is pain.

Je suys d’or fin, & mainte pierre fine
Est enchassée en moy de grand valeur:
Mais par dedans j’ay tousjours quelque espine,
Qui fait aux Roys bien souvent grand douleur.
