tetrastichon.

Immare [=In mare] si pluvio densus cadat imber ab Austro,[1]
Non ob id exundat, nec magis unda tumet:
Sic tonet ipsa, licčt validis Fortuna procellis,
Nil agit in fortem magnanimumque virum.

If a dense rain falls from wet Auster into the sea, it does not cause it to swell, nor does the water rise; thus: although Fortune should thunder against him with mighty tempests, this will have no effect on a brave and great-souled man.

Quatrain.

Come ŕ la mer ne croist l’eau d’avantage,
Pourtant qu’on voye ou gresler ou plouvoir:
Semblablement, ne pourra l’homme sage,
Cas fortuit estonner ne mouvoir.

Notes:

1.  Auster, the South Wind.
