Ut viret aeternum Buxus, tum frondis honore
Gaudet, at illa gravis semen odoris habet:
Plurima fucatae contingunt commoda linguae,
Ni lateat[1] dulci virus in eloquio.

As the box-tree is always green, and rejoices in the pride of her leaves, but has an evil-smelling seed, so hypocritical [lit. painted] tongues touch on many useful things, that the poison in the sweet eloquence should not be hidden.

quatrain.

En tout temps est le Buys verd en ramage,
Mais son grain est mauvais toute saison:
Il est louable avoir orné langage,
Pourveu qu’en luy n’ayt latente poyson.
