xlvii.

Natus humo despectat humum, & terrestria toto
Corde petens, coelo quaerere nescit opes.
Nempe rubo similis: nam, cłm surrexit in altum:
Radices summa fronde recurvat humo.

He who is born of the earth contemplates the earth and seeking earthly things with his whole heart does not know how to seek treasure in heaven. To be sure he is like the bramble; for when it has grown up high it turns its roots back from the leafy foliage above to the earth.
