Cest homme icy, selon qu’il s’achemine,
Monstre qu’il veut à vertu parvenir,
Marchant en mer, la roche brise, & mine
Pour son chemin applanir & unir.
Celuy qui veut jusques à Christ venir,
Doit tout ainsi par actes vertueux
S’acheminer, & de foy se munir,
Pour rendre aisé ce roc tant perilleux.

INVIA VIRTUTI NULLA EST VIA

: For virtue there is everywhere a way (Ovid Met. XIV.113)

lx.

Ardua praerupto quamvis stet culmine Virtus,
Quo mare spumantes undique voluit aquas:
Saxa tamen fluctúsque mihi decedere coget
Vis mea, virtutis quam trahit altus amor.

However much lofty Virtue may stand on a rugged peak, which the sea wanted its frothy waters to reach, nevertheless my strength, which the mighty love of virtue draws out, forces the rocks and the waves to yield to me.
