Quand l’homme fol est par ire enflammé
Et vient à tort faire à son frere outrage,
Comment seroit le batu estimé,
De luy bailler à souhait son visage?

Non offerre jubet faciem Lex, cùm furibundus
Sublata intentat verbera utraque manu,
At sufferre: iram levis patientia vincit,
Et tumidum sedat sanguinem & ingenium.

The Law does not order [us] to expose our faces, when the angry man threatens with raised staff and both his hands, but rather to endure; gentle patience conquers anger and calms enraged blood and spirit.
