ELCE.

Holm-oak.

Chi voul l’Elce piegar, per esser dura,
Si rompe e spezza: cosi alcun Signore
Mentre d’esser severo ha troppa cura,
E punir aspramente il popol suole,
Pon la discordia, e la concordia fura,
Contrario effetto a quel che brama e vuole;
Che non offende alturi cosi la legge,
Quanto la leggerezza di chi regge.
