Vois-tu Amour riant, & d’un regard
Doux & benin, sans son brandon qui ard,

L’une des mains pourquoy tient elle fleurs,
L’autre un poisson?[1] pour enseigner plusieurs,
Qu’en terre & mer il estend son empire.

Le petit enfant Cupidon est icy depeinct nud, sou-
riant, & d’un regard fort bening & amiable: Il n’a
avec soy ny arc, ny dards, ny feu. En l’une des mains
il tient des fleurs, & en l’autre un poisson, faisant par
là congnoistre son pouvoir & en mer & en terre.
Car les fleurs signifient la terre, & le poisson nous de-
note la mer. Le vray moyen de rendre ses
traicts inu-
tiles, c’est de n’estre jamais
oisif, & ne s’eslonger
jamais du chemin de la vertu.
