Contra los aduladores.

Endecasyllabos con Dimetros cataletticos.

Estą el Camaleon la boca abierta
Y de ayre se mantiene,[1]
Y en todos los colores se transforma
Sino es en blanco y rojo.[2]
Ansi en el popular favor se cria
El adulador triste
Todas las condiciones ymitando
Si no es la pura y casta.

Notes:

1.  This creature was supposed to feed only on air, keeping its mouth wide open to suck it in. See Pliny, Natural History 8.51.122. For the chameleon cf. Erasmus, Parabolae pp.144, 241, 252.

2.  ‘Sino es en blanco y rojo’. See Pliny, ib.

El cautivo por la gula.

OTTAVA ACEPHALA.

Unas conchas abiertas visto avia
Un raton, y ą mordellas allegando
Cerraronse, a’quel tiempo que ponia
La barba en ellas, a’l qual apretando
Tuvieron en su carcel encerrado
Donde por su querer el avia entrado.[1]
