Begin with good auspices

Auspiciis res coepta malis, bene cedere nescit.
Felici quae sunt omine facta, iuvant.
Quidquid agis, mustela tibi si occurrat, omitte:
Signa malae haec sortis bestia prava gerit.[1]
A business begun with bad auspices cannot turn out well. Things done with good omens bring happiness. Whatever you are doing, if a weasel crosses your path, abandon it. This evil creature bears signs of ill luck.

heureux commencement: au contraire ce-
la n’apporte peu d’incommodité si on se
prend par un mauvais bout, ou qui ne soit à
propos, ou il y ait je ne sçay quoy de repre-
hensible. Qui est de vray un bel enseigne-
ment & plein de pourvoyance, moyenant
toutesfois qu’il n’y ait point de superstition,
laquelle estonne & travaille aucuns d’une
je ne sçay quelle crainte.
