Le captif pour sa gourmandise.

Le Rat regnant au cellier, rongeant tout,
Des huystres vit baillantes par ung bout:
Sa barbe y mit: & faulx os il atrappe,
Lesquelz touchéz feirent tomber la trappe,
Et le larron en prison hont tenu,
Qui par soy mesme en sa fosse est venu.[1]

Plusieurs se rendent serfz, captifz aulx bonnes
maisons: seullement pour les bons morseaulx, Plu-
sieurs aussi font leur fosse avec les dens, se procurans
mort avant eage, par exces de gourmandise.

Sì come sopra instabil palla tiene
Fortuna il piè: cosi Mercurio sopra
Salda pietra si ferma. egli contiene
L’honor de gl’intelletti; instabil opra
Fortuna ordisce, e poco fe mantiene:
Onde saggio è colui, che l’arte adopra.
Adunque le buone arti ognuno apprenda,
Che fanno, ch’ella al fin vinta si renda.
