Venus riant dist. Filz, Tu sembles elle,
Qui si petit fais playe tant cruelle.

Petite chose peut faire grand mal: comme ung scorpion,
ung Phalange, Aussi Amour si petit qu’il ne peut
estre veu: faict au coeur playe presque irremediable.

1.  3rd-century BC bucolic poet, who may or may not have wrriten the Idylls (19, The Honey Stealer), of which this is a fairly close translation, in dactylic hexameters, as in the Greek original.
