Au maniement de petitz affaires comme de bas
mestiers, de petites revenditions, d’escholes d’huma
nité ne faut esperer grand profit. Mais bien ā l’admi-
nistration des grandes, comme des guerres, finances,
conseilz, justice, grosses marchandises. Et pource en
petit estat, ne faut avoir compaignon, car deux be-
listres (comme l’on dit) ne sont pas bons ā une porte.
1. Unusually, this emblem does not correspond to that found in this position in the 1549 edition. The disparity presumably occurred when the forme was imposed. See [FALb088]. ‘Contre un bavard Glouton’ is here found on H2ro.
2. ‘One clump of trees does not feed two robins’. For this proverb, see Apostolius, Proverbs 11.68, where it is said to refer to ‘those who try to turn something small into a source of profit’.
