Les choses doulces quelque fois
deviennent ameres.

APOSTROPHE.

Cupid flying to his mother, Venus’s, arms chased by bees.

Le filz Venus fut picqué des aveilles:
Sa mere loing laissée, vint vers elles,
En les pensant plaisans oyseletz estre.
Mais le serpent n’est si cruel, ne traistre:
Car avec miel, hont l’aguillon qui poingt.
Helas douleur: sans toy plaisir n’est point.[1]

Comme L’aveille avec le doulx miel ha l’aguillon,
qui poingt: ainsi en ce mortel monde n’est doulceur
de plaisir: qui n’ayt son amertume de douleur.
Car douleur est de Volupte compaigne.
