symbole, & la vraye marque des
amitiés & confede-
rations. Les Romains en ont tousjours ainsi usé. Celà
se pratique ordinairement encor
aujourd’huy en tou-
te la Chrestiennté, & singulierement entre les Alle-
mans. Tacite recite que quand Germani se mouroit,
ses amis luy toucherent à la main, pour
l’asseurer qu’ils
vengeroyent sa mort. Ceux sont tenus
pour lasches
& indignes de vivre, lesquels ayans baillé les mains
l’un à l’autre, viennent à faire le rebours de ce qu’ils
ont promis.
