Alciat reprend icy quelcun, lequel s’estoit telle-

ment amouraché de l’excellence & magnificence de
la ville de Romme, qu’il en avoit oublié sa propre pa-
trie, ne se souvenant plus de ses parents, de ses alliés,
de ses amis, de ses familiers, n’ayant plus aucun desir
de retourner chez soy: ne plus ne moins que les com-
pagnons d’Ulysses ne se soucierent plus de revoir leur
patrie, ny de faire compagnie à leur Prince, dés qu’ils
commencerent à savourer le
fruict appellé Lotos: &
falut les y contraindre à coups de
baston: autrement
ne les eust-on peu jamais faire embarquer. De là est
venu le Proverbe, Il a gousté le Lot. C’est un grand
malheur à l’homme, quand les plaisirs, & autres al-
lechements, le font detracquer du chemin de la vertu.
