ASSIDUITAS PERFICIT.
PERSISTENCE DOES IT
Quid magis est durum saxo? Quid mollius unda?
Dura tamen molli saxa cavantur aqua.[1]
Πέτραν κοιλαίνει ῥανὶς ὕδατος ἐνδελεχείη
Καὶ πόνος ἐνδελεχὴς πράγματα πάντα τελει.
What is harder than rock, or softer than water? Nevertheless, hard stones are hollowed out by soft water. The drop of water with persistency hollows out the boulder, and persistent labour carries everything to fruition.
Notes:
1. The first line of the Greek distichon that follows is a quotation (Choerilus 10).
