PRINCEPS IUSTITIAE AD-
VIGILANS.
THE PRINCE ADMINISTERS JUSTICE
Sceptrum oculo superimposito gestabat Osiris
Rex Pharius: quo non iustior alter erat.
Sceptrum iustitiae est index, oculus nota sacra
Mentis, quae nunquam non agit, & vigilat.
Regibus exemplum praebens (quod munus eorum est)
Iustitiam ut vigili distribuant animo.
Osiris, King of Pharos [i.e., Egypt], used to hold a sceptre with an eye on top: there was no one more just than he. The sceptre is a sign of justice, the eye a sacred sign for the mind, which is always active and attentive, a sign to kings to administer justice with a vigilant soul (which is their work).
