Estre cause de son mal.

A woman lies on a wheel at the foot of a tree (Fortune). Another woman stands over her (Poverty). Behing the tree a man stands (Happiness). He holds something in one hand and with the other pulls a rope which binds a dark human figure (Misfortune) to a tree.

Ne donnes blasme qu’a toymesmes
Si aulcun malheur te surprend,
Car contre toy riens nentreprend
Sinon par tes faultes extremes

JAdis fortune haultaine & depiteuse
A pauvreté tant meigre & souffreteuse
Livra l’assault & combat oultrageux,
Qui ne fut pas pour elle advantageux,
Mais paravant la bataille donnée
Entre elles fut telle loy ordonnée
Que ceste la qui vaincu seroit,
La volunté de l’aultre accompliroit.
Lors sur le champ se mettent en bataille
L’une d’estoc, l’aultre frappe de taille,
Tant fut batu pour abreger l’histoire
Qu’a pauvreté demeura la victoire,
Qui dit tout hault fortune tu peulx voir,
Que maintenant tu es soubz mon povoir,
J’ordonne doncq que bon heur ton enfant
Gouvernera ainsi que tryumphant
Tous les humains & malheur le tien filz,
Duquel plusieurs ont esté desconfictz,
Tout promptement à ung arbre sera
Tresbien lié, dont il n’eschappera
Et ne pourra ensuyvant ma deffense,
Faire à aultruy quelque injure ou offense,
Sinon à cil qui par sa volunté
Mettra malheur en plaine liberté,
Car il ne peult à aulcun faire oultrage
Qui ne luy donne ung tresgrand advantage.
