Terret ut aspectus nos cauda scorpius unca,
Et placet eximio pictus ab artifice:
Horrida fit mulier frontem cui tempus aravit,
At cui iam facies picta sit arte, placet.

As the curved tail of the scorpion terrifies our gaze, and yet appeals to us if it is painted by a great artist, so a woman whose face time has ploughed is frightening, but she wins our liking whose face has been artfully painted.

L’escorpion fait frayeur à le veoir,
Mais pour playsir bien peint on le regarde:
Viellesse fait femme layde apparoir,
Mais elle plait, quand bien elle se farde.
