For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased
xlii.
Altior insurgis fastu, vesane, superbo:
Sed capiti impendet dira ruina tuo.
Cernis, ut immodicis bullantes ignibus ollae,
Effuso in cineres undique jure, fluunt.
You mad man, you raise yourself higher with haughty arrogance but awful ruin hangs over your head. Look how the jars, bubbling over on a fire which is out of control, overflow, the broth spilt on all sides on to the ashes.
1. Luke 14:9; cf. Luke 1:52, Matthew 23:12; James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5
