Epitaph of Lotichius Secundus.
Qui est soubz ce tombeau? c’est Lotiche le poete
Et le bon medecin qui fut tant renommé:
Il est soubz ce tombeau pesamment enfermé,
Ayant d’homme de bien la louange parfaicte:
Autant comme Sabin & Stigel il estoit,
Que s’il eust plus duré desja les surmontoit.
Que veulent denoter ces filles esplourees,
Et ces femmes chomant’, ce signe & ce laurier
Et ce vieillart encor? chacun le veut plourer

Que veut cest arc en ciel? ainsi comme il se change
En diverses couleurs, il nous monstre amplement
De l’homme icy vivant le divers changement.
Estant jeune il souffroit la peine plus estrange
De la guerre & l’estude, & puis eut les douceurs
Que lon peut recevoir de Phebus & ses soeurs,
Puis estant medecin il eust la congnoissance
De cela que contient la terre & la mer,
De ce qui est au ciel, dans le feu & dans l’air
Puis, helas! il mourut laissant la souvenance
A ceux qui survivront. Mais je te veux prier,
Viateur, de couvrir ses cendres de laurier.
